This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
