The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
