The President Calls Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Soldiers to White House

President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.

He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Tragic Incident

Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

Vigils across the state have been held in their honor.

White House Invitation

The president stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed the press. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”

Public Response

Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.

Honoring the Soldier

“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always willing to assist people.”

Service arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Steps and Policy Adjustments

Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The incident prompted the administration to suspend asylum applications and halt issuing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Wolfe

The airman, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.

He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor said on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told a news show that she also intended to speak to the family.

Memory of Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had courage,” he addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
