Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
